history

Already with the construction of the Chemnitz-Annaberger Bahn there were plans for a continuation of the route over the Erzgebirgskamm to Bohemia. Annaberger citizens founded the "Annaberger Eisenbahncomite", which applied to the Austrian government for a concession for a line Komotau – Annaberg to connect to the route of the Aussig-Teplitz railway . At that time, however, Austria favored a line from Karlsbad to Schwarzenberg , which was to be built by a consortium. Only the plan for a direct line from Prague to Annaberg found the goodwill of the Austrian government.

In this situation, however, the existing, privately provided funds of the committee were used up. The committee handed over the project documents to the citizens of Annaberg, Oehme and Hempel, who continued to pursue the project in their own economic interest. On August 28, 1865, the Austrian government gave them the concession for a “Saxon-Bohemian connecting railway” to connect to the Buschtěhrad railway near Katschitz . However, the German War of 1866 prevented a quick realization, so that the concession expired again.

On July 1, 1868, the Buschtěhrad Railway received a new concession for a route Komotau – Weipert, which was approved together with the line from Prague via Komotau to Eger. The company of the Saxon-Bohemian connecting line Annaberg – Weipert was founded in September 1869 for the construction of the connecting line in Saxony . The company's capital was 1,060,000 thalers . 4,600 ordinary shares at 100 thalers and 6000 priority bonds at 100 thalers each were issued. On April 19, 1870, the company of the Saxon-Bohemian connecting railway Annaberg – Weipert received the concession for the section from the state border to Annaberg.

The Buschtěhrad Railway opened the Komotau – Weipert line on August 1, 1872. Two days later - on August 3, 1872 - the Weipert – Annaberg line also went into operation for general traffic. The Royal Saxon State Railways took over the operation with their operating resources against 50 percent of the gross income.

Until the construction of the route via Reitzenhain , the route via Weipert was the only railway connection crossing the Ore Mountains. When this went into operation on August 23, 1875, the line via Weipert lost a considerable part of the through traffic. The now unprofitable connection was acquired by the Saxon state on August 12, 1878. The company of the Saxon-Bohemian connecting railway Annaberg – Weipert dissolved in 1882.
