The AGA - Society for Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery is a specialist medical society in Germany , Austria and Switzerland . The purpose is to promote scientific and technical issues in arthroscopy and joint surgery as well as to represent the political interests of issues relating to arthroscopy and joint surgery. With over 5,200 members, the association is the largest European specialist society in the field of arthroscopy. In addition to doctors and scientists, production or trading companies are also supporting members.
history
The association was founded on October 29, 1983 as the German-speaking Working Group for Arthroscopy (AGA) by German, Austrian and Swiss doctors in Zurich. Due to the increasing mixing of arthroscopic and open joint surgery techniques, the name was changed to AGA - Society for Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery on September 23, 2011 .
activity
The company organizes the “AGA Congress” once a year, offers regular seminars and training courses for the training and further education of arthroscopic surgeons with the AGA Academy Arthroscopy Courses and the STArt - SimulatorTraining Arthroscopy Courses and grants qualifications for doctors and (non-governmental) certifications for Arthroscopy courses.
It offers particularly experienced arthroscopic surgeons who are active in training and further education, the association's own certification as AGA instructors .
Training fellowships are awarded in cooperation with other international arthroscopic specialist societies .
She also represents professional affairs in arthroscopy and joint surgery.
The organ of publication is the journal Arthoskopie (published by Springer-Verlag ).
Cooperations
There are collaborations with other national and international arthroscopy associations such as the Asociacion Espanola d'Artroscopia (AEA), the Societe Francaise d` Arthroscopie (SFA), the Sociedade Portuguesa de Artroscopia e Traumatologia desportiva (SPAT), the Società Italiana di Artroscopia ( SIA) and the European Society for Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA) for the European Arthroscopy Fellowship (EAF). On the other hand, the AGA works with the Nederlandse Vereniging voor Arthroscopie (NVA) as part of the NVA fellowship .
The association cooperates with the BVASK professional association for arthroscopy eV in the field of political representation. In addition, the AGA is a section of the German Society for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery (DGOU)

AGA students
Founded in 2011 as the AGA Young Forum , medical students interested in arthroscopy and orthopedics are organized as AGA students. In addition to seminars, advanced training courses, placement of clinical traineeships and internships as well as networking with like-minded people, there is the possibility of a fee-free AGA student membership, which opens up further training and funding opportunities and, among other things, enables free participation in the annual AGA congresses.
