Karl Poser
Karl Poser , baptized as Ernst Carl Poser , (born June 5, 1870 in Limbach , † August 19, 1916 in Leipzig ) was a German architect .
Live and act
Karl Poser was born as the eldest son of the "certified master mason" Ernst Friedrich Poser and his wife Anna Laura Poser, née. Harzendorf born in Limbach. His grandfather was the building contractor Christoph Poser . On September 7, 1907, he married Barbara Wilhelmine Bertha, b. Germann (born October 25, 1865 in Darmstadt); the marriage remained childless. On August 19, 1916, Karl Poser died of "heart failure after an operation on the appendix".
Father and grandfather were responsible for many Limbach building projects in the second half of the 19th century. Poser was therefore familiar with construction practice from an early age. It is not yet known where he completed his training as an architect. As an architect, he followed the current technical and design developments of his time very closely, took them up and developed his own solutions from them. For example, he used the possibilities of reinforced concrete structures early on .
From 1900, Poser built numerous apartment buildings in Leipzig. In addition, Wurzen formed a special focus of activity: In 1902 a new building for the commercial school and a commercial building for the Wurzener Bank were built here . Until around 1903 he worked in an office community with the architect Adalbert Friedrich ( Friedrich and Poser, Bureau for Architecture and Construction ) and then worked independently. He took part in numerous architectural competitions and also made a name for himself through the skillful and sensitive renovation of historical buildings, e.g. B. from Schloss Flößberg near Borna. In 1905 the parish hall of the Michaeliskirche on Nordplatz in Leipzig was built with its extraordinary entrance portal, 1906–1907 the Villa Pinkau - his first single-family house . Whenever possible, Poser also designed the interior design of his buildings. According to the current state of knowledge, the establishment of the restaurant “Zur Traube” from 1908, which at that time was one of the most elegant restaurants in Leipzig, can be regarded as his most important contribution in this area.
Critics praised his ability to find “original” design aspects from conventional building projects. Poser avoided typical structural elements such as columns , pilasters or protruding cornices . Some of his facades initially appear almost flat, but then turn out to be carefully sculpted. He relied on a simple, clear structure, economical ornamentation and unusual combinations of motifs.
Towards the end of the first decade of the 20th century, his style changed significantly: Under the influence of the emerging reform architecture and homeland security architecture , the decorative and sculptural elements receded further in favor of "functional", functional designs and finally disappeared completely. His appointment to the German Werkbund, founded in 1907, corresponds to this development . At that time he was involved in planning larger residential complexes and garden city settlements (including Leipzig-Marienbrunn ). Poser benefited from his ability to organize complex buildings in a “picturesque” manner in large projects such as the Auerbach district monastery (1908–1910) or the hospital in Rabenstein near Chemnitz (1912–1913). These late buildings were still carefully constructed, but the original, architectural trait was now missing.
After 1910, the emerging neoclassicism also influenced him . The most striking example of this is the exhibition hall for hygienic building equipment at the Leipzig International Building Exhibition in 1913 . At the only building in Leipzig with which his name is popularly associated, the former administration building of the fire insurance company on Thomasring called "Runde Ecke" , he was probably only responsible for the technical construction on behalf of Hugo Licht , but not for the design.
For 1908, the studio or residential address at Äußere Hallesche Straße 7 in Leipzig-Gohlis is recorded in a directory of members of the Society for Geography in Leipzig , for 1913 the address is Burgstraße 26.
Poser was a member of the Association of German Architects .
