Society for Ichthyology

The Gesellschaft für Ichthyologie GfI eV is the scientific specialist society for fish studies for the German-speaking area. The president of the GfI is Fabian Herder, curator for fish at the ZFMK Bonn . The managing director is Heiko Brunken , professor of ecology and nature conservation at the University of Bremen .

Goal setting

The GfI would like to promote the scientific occupation with fish and offer "all scientists and ichthyological interested people a German-speaking forum for information, communication and publication". Members of the GfI are both scientists and scientifically working aquarists . The research fields of the members range from native fish to fish in almost every corner of the world, covering both fresh, sea and brackish water species. According to their own statements, almost every area of ichthyology is covered by the activities of the GfI members.

Publications

The GfI-Mitteilungen and scientific articles appear in the Bulletin of Fish Biology , formerly the Zeitschrift für Fischkunde ( ISSN : 1867-5417). 18 volumes have now been published.

Meetings

The GfI organizes an annual scientific conference. The last one took place in 2019 in the Zoological Research Museum Alexander Koenig ZFMK Bonn . The abstracts of the conference will be published in a conference proceedings.
