history

Start time

The history of the Gesellschaft für Stromwirtschaft (GfSt) goes back to general electrification in the 1920s: the establishment and development of a joint energy and electricity management network for the coal and steel industry on the Rhine , Ruhr , Sieg and Saar . In 1926, the United Steel Works (VSt) was founded. This company was later in liquidation due to Law No. 27 on the reorganization of German coal mining and the German steel and iron industry: first joint contract with RWE , renouncing the construction of its own high-voltage lines.

post war period

In the post-war period in Germany , the company developed as follows: In 1950 new delivery and purchase contracts were signed with RWE, subsequently u. a. with the United Electricity Works Westphalia (VEW) and Elektromark for the member companies.

The former VSt-AG Strombewirtschaftungsstelle had its office in the house of the VSt-AG in Duisburg-Meiderich. During the turmoil of the war, the company first moved to the Rheinische Röhrenwerke and then moved to the company's headquarters at Jägerhofstrasse 21 in Mülheim-Speldorf, to the former administration building of the Wilhelm Schmitz company at Schlossstrasse 68 (today Leineweberstrasse 3) in Mülheim an der Ruhr. After 25 years of activity at VSt AG Strombewirtschaftungsstelle, the company was founded as the successor company, Gesellschaft für Stromwirtschaft mbH, in Mülheim an der Ruhr on April 15, 1953.

The former GfSt administration building at Delle 50–52 in Mülheim an der Ruhr has been a listed building since 2014. From 1976 to 2001 the headquarters of the Harke Group (Syntana) were also located here.

In 1954 it was decided to build a new representative administration building in the Ruhranlage an der Delle in the city of Mülheim an der Ruhr , which was occupied on October 1st, 1956.

Initially, the company concentrated on deliveries from RWE and VEW.

In 1999, the liberalization of the energy markets began gradually; for the first time it was possible to change suppliers; From 2001 the framework contract was supplied by EnBW .

In 2000 the sister company GFST - Energy and Electricity Industry was founded; she advises third parties on what was not possible in the GfSt due to statutory reasons.

After gradually entering the field of natural gas consulting and procurement, the first major framework agreement was signed with Cargill in 2010.

In 2012 the Gesellschaft für Stromwirtschaft was converted into a cooperative.

In 2014 the administration building Delle 50-52 (Bauhaus style elements) was placed under monument protection.

In 2018 the parent company Delle 50-52 was sold and the company moved to Düsseldorf . In 2019 the company was renamed enplify eG.

As a result of the liberalization of the energy market and the establishment of the electricity exchanges ( APX , later EEX- European Energy Exchange ), the original business purpose of bundling electricity and gas supplies for the member companies was no longer in the foreground. Society is increasingly adapting to consulting activities by member companies.
