Swiss Society of Female Artists

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Swiss Society of Female Artists (SGBK or French Société Suisse des Femme s Artistes en Arts Visuels - SSFA; Italian Società svizzera delle artiste d'arti plastiche e figurative - SSAA) is a Swiss professional organization for professional female artists . It was founded in 1902 and is divided into three sections: Basel , Bern / Romandie and Zurich . The company, which currently has around 200 members, is based in Basel. All around 1,500 female artists who have been members since it was founded are documented in the Swiss Institute for Art Research (SIK).

history

The organization was founded in Lausanne in 1902 by artists from French-speaking Switzerland as Société Romande des Femmes Peintres et Sculpteurs , as women did not gain access to the Society of Swiss Painters, Sculptors and Architects (GSMBA; now the Society of Swiss Painters and Sculptors - GSMB) until 1972 . Berthe Sandoz-Lassieur was the founding president until 1908, the first vice-president was Nora Perret-Gross.

In 1903 the Geneva and Neuchâtel sections were joined and in 1909 the Bern , Basel and Zurich sections were added. Due to the newly acquired sub-associations, the name was also changed in 1909 to the Society of Swiss Painters and Sculptors (GSMB). In 1928 the company was renamed the Society of Swiss Women Painters, Sculptors and Craftsmen (GSMBK) for the second time .

The GSMBK joined the health insurance for Swiss visual artists and the support fund for Swiss visual artists and received federal subsidies for the first time in 1985, after which the central secretariat was set up with a secretary.

After her death, the artist Trudy Schlatter (1912–1980), resident in the Bern Section, bequeathed her apartment in Montreux to the GSMBK . The "Gertrud Schlatter Fund" was founded in 1987 for members in need with the proceeds from the sale.

From 1993 the association was called the Society of Swiss Female Artists (GSBK). A merger with the GSMBA was rejected in 2000 by the active members of the GSMBK. The organization has had its current name since 2003.

In 2012 the company was awarded the Basel Equal Opportunities Prize.
