The Gestra AG is a listed former German producer of valves and control systems based in Bremen. Gestra is part of the British Spirax-Sarco.

The company develops, produces and sells valves such as condensate drains and non-return valves , electronic products for boiler automation and special containers for steam and condensate management.

history

In 1902 Gerdts & Strauch founded the company, which was renamed Gustav F. Gerdts KG five years later . The production company Technova was founded in 1951, and Gestra France in 1956. Further daughters followed in 1961 with Gestra Italia, England, Española and Sudamericana. A year later the company became Gustav F. Gerdts GmbH & Co. KG . Gestra KSB Vertriebsgesellschaft, a joint venture with KSB Aktiengesellschaft , was founded in 1968, and Gestra Inc. in the USA in 1976.

In 1983 the name was changed to Gestra AG with the purchase of KSB shares and the company went public. The company was taken over by British Sieben (since 1999 Invensys ) five years later . In 1994 UNIVAM was incorporated and in 1995 P&W Ventil- und Steuerung-Service GmbH. In 1997, Gestra was taken off the stock exchange and converted into a GmbH.

Gestra joined Flowserve in 2002 with the sale of the entire Invensys Flow Control division . In 2004 it was again converted into an AG.

In 2017 Gestra was sold by Flowserve to Spirax-Sarco (LSE: SPX).

Others

The locomotive No. 1 of the Kleinbahn Bremen – Tarmstedt Jan Reiners was handed over in 1966 by Gustav F. Gerdts GmbH & Co. KG to the Findorff citizens' association, who erected it as a memorial in the area of ​​the former Hemmstraße station . For a good ten years the discarded small train locomotive was used by Gestra as a steam pressure boiler for the steam supply.
