Health Campus NRW

The NRW Health Campus is an industrial park that was built between 2006 and 2007 to the northwest of the Ruhr University Bochum in Bochum-Querenburg . The location is used by the University of Health and other institutions.

The project was initially designated as a Biomedical Park Ruhr and was subsidized by the European Union and the State of North Rhine-Westphalia to a total of 55%. The area south of Universitätsstrasse is 90,000 m², 55,000 m² of which are available for development.

Terrain in July 2008

The area (Gesundheitscampus Süd) is located on a former field and in the south-eastern part on a former garbage dump that was closed in the 1970s. In preparation, cavities from the time of the Ruhr mining had to be filled. Starting in 2008, the plots should be awarded to around 20 to 25 companies in the fields of biomedicine , biochemistry and medical technology . In spring 2010, despite the marketing by the Ruhr-Bochum development company, there was still no development.

A thirteen-storey high-rise ( Hochhaus West ), which was built in the 1960s and was demolished in 2013 , stood on what is now the Health Campus North .

A turning point was brought about by the decision of the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia on May 12, 2009 that Bochum should become the location of the new NRW health campus . The city contributed 10 million euros to the financial volume of 140 million euros, the rest was borne by the state and the European Union. The original Biomedicine Park became the Health Campus South or Health Campus Bochum . Another area, the North Health Campus, has a usable size of around 48,500 m². Institute and administrative units, offices, seminar rooms and lecture halls as well as a cafeteria, a library and a central event center were built here. The University of Health moved into the new building in summer 2015. The State Health Center moved into the new building next to it in July 2018, together with the NRW Cancer Register and the State Institute for Work Design of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (LIA.NRW).
