Gethin Jenkins (born November 17, 1980 in Llantwit Fadre , Rhondda Cynon Taf , Glamorgan ) is a Welsh rugby union player who is used on the position of the pillar . He is part of the Welsh national team and active for the Cardiff Blues .

Career

Jenkins began his career at Treorchy RFC before moving to Pontypridd , where he won the Welsh Cup. He made his national team debut against Romania in 2002 before moving to the newly formed regional team Celtic Warriors in 2003. Since this team disbanded after only one season, he had to look for a new club and went to the Cardiff Blues.

Jenkins was appointed to the squad for the 2003 World Cup and was used in all games. He varied on the positions of the left and right pillars. At the Six Nations 2005 he reached his career high, like many other Welsh players. The national team won the Grand Slam that year. He even succeeded in trying against Ireland . Because of these achievements, he was appointed to the ranks of the British and Irish Lions and was used in all three official friendly matches against New Zealand .

In the following season, he missed numerous games due to serious injuries. Soon after, however, he found his form back and was part of the Welsh national team for the 2007 World Cup in France . He was used in the four preliminary round games, three times he was in the starting lineup. Wales were disappointed early out after two defeats and two wins.

At the Six Nations 2008 Jenkins succeeded again in the Grand Slam with Wales, again he was on the field at all games. In the run-up, he was appointed captain of the national team for the first time. In 2009 he won the EDF Energy Cup with the Blues . On April 21st of that year he was nominated by Ian McGeechan for the tour of the British and Irish Lions to South Africa . He was part of the starting line-up in the first two games, but was unable to participate in the final game due to an injury.
