The corrugated armored catfish ( Corydoras undulatus ( Latin undulatus , `` provided with waves '' )) is a freshwater fish native to the lower Río Paraná and the coastal rivers of southeastern Brazil .
features
Female corrugated armored catfish reach a maximum size of 5 cm, while males stay smaller and are slimmer. The wavy armored catfish has a typical Corydoras shape, but is more elongated than most other species. It has a yellowish to olive-brownish basic color. The sides are patterned by numerous dark dots and spots that combine to form wavy lines, especially in the middle of the page. In between there are gold-colored points. The gill covers are also patterned with wavy lines. The belly is ocher. The fins are transparent and show some dark rows of dots or lines. The upper row of bone plates on the sides of the body has 21 to 23 plates, the lower 19 to 20. Males are said to have a dorsal fin with a black tip.
- Fin formula : dorsal I / 7, anal I / 6–7.
Wavy armored catfish feed on worms, small crustaceans, insects, and vegetable matter.
Systematics
The wavy armored catfish belongs to the group of the Corydoras elegans species group , which will probably be separated from Corydoras in the future and assigned to a new genus.
