Gework Alichanow

Gework Sarkissowitsch Alichanow ( Russian Геворк Саркисович Алиханов ; actually Gevorg Alikhanian , Armenian Գեւորգ Ալիխանյան * 1897 in Tbilisi ; †  13. February 1938 in Kommunarka in Moscow ) was a functionary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and stepfather of Yelena Bonner .

From December 1920 to April 1921 he was First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Armenia . Later he was a member of the Executive Committee and head of the Balkans Department of the Communist International ( Comintern ).

On May 26, 1937, he was arrested in the course of the Great Terror , sentenced to death on February 13, 1938 and shot on the same day in Kommunarka near Moscow. The date of death 11 November 1939, which was initially communicated to the family, as well as the cause of death pneumonia later turned out to be incorrect.

In 1954, Alichanov was rehabilitated .
