Geza Slovig
Geza Slovig (born September 1, 1897 in Steierdorf , Austria-Hungary, † January 13, 1944 in Bucharest , Romania) was a Romanian-German church musician , music teacher and composer .
Life
Slovig attended an organ course in Timisoara and was recommended as organist to Bishop Alexandru Theodor Cisar by the pastor and composer Carl Auner . In 1930 he appointed him to the cathedral organist at the St. Joseph Cathedral in Bucharest, which at the time was being equipped with a new organ from the Carl Leopold Wegenstein company from Timisoara. At the festive service for the inauguration of the organ, Slovig played three solo works by Franz Liszt , Alexandre Guilmant and Frederick Scotson Clark .
Slovig was the organist of St Joseph's Cathedral until his death. At the same time he worked as a music and singing teacher at the St. Josef and St. Andreas grammar schools . In addition to church music, he composed several piano pieces as well as smaller pieces for solo instruments and salon orchestra. Slovig fell seriously ill in 1941 and died of a heart attack in 1944.
