Carl Leopold Wegenstein
Carl Leopold Wegenstein (* 1858 in Kleinhadersdorf , Austrian Empire , † 1937 in Timișoara , Kingdom of Romania ) was an Austrian organ builder .
Life
Carl Leopold Wegenstein learned his trade in Vienna; his apprenticeship years led him to several well-known organ workshops, for example in Ludwigsburg ( Walcker ), Dresden (Jähmlich), Berlin (Dinze), Stuttgart ( Weigle ), Erfurt (Hickmann), Lucerne ( Goll ), Dresden (Kaufmann), Göttingen ( Giesecke ) and Weikersheim ( Aug. Laukhuff ). In 1880 he settled in Timișoara. He opened his first workshop in the house of his father-in-law Josef Hromadka, but soon moved to Hunyadi-ut in III. Timișoaras district, Elisabetin , around. In 1887 he founded the first pneumatic organ building company in southern Hungary .
In the then Hungarian monarchy, his company competed with the other two most important organ building workshops in this region, namely Otto Rieger in Budapest and József Angster in Pécs . The company had built 122 organs by 1913, and by 1945 the organ building workshop had delivered a total of over 300 instruments.
Of his eight children, Richard (* June 10, 1886, † March 24, 1970 Timișoara), Josef (* March 4, 1894, † June 14, 1930 Timișoara) and Viktor (* June 9, 1901, † October 23 , 1930) were born. 1964 Timișoara) his successor in organ building. The last descendant of the organ building family, Josef Wegenstein jun. , worked for the organ building company Aug. Laukhuff for many years .
