The Marienkirche ( Romanian Biserica Parohială "Sfântul Nume al Sfintei Fecioare Maria" ) is a Roman Catholic church in the Mehala , the fifth district of the city of Timișoara ( German  Timişoara ) in western Romania .

history

The Mehala Catholic faithful were originally cared for by the parish in the Timisoara fortress. In September 1887, the current was on the west side Piata Avram Iancu , the Marienkirche erected. In 1896 the Mehala parish was taken over by the Salvatorians .

Eduard Reiter from Josefstadt (* unknown; † August 10, 1908 in Timisoara) was the builder of the church, which was consecrated to the Blessed Virgin Mary on September 12, 1887 . The South Tyrolean Ferdinand Stuflesser made the high altar and the two side altars in his workshop. The painting on the high altar shows the Mother of God with the baby Jesus .

The two glass windows next to the main altar show the coronation of Mary on the right and the Annunciation of the Lord on the left and were made in the Mayer studio in Munich in 1928 . In 1937 two more glass windows, also from Munich, from the Müller company were added. Due to severe damage, it was completely renovated in 1975 by the Elisabethstadt painter Georg Boicean , a student of the Timisoara painter Julius Podlipny . The pictures of the twelve apostles in the nave were created by the new Arad Géza Ulrich .

The four bells were cast in the König bell foundry in Arad in 1921 . In 1923 the church was rebuilt after it was consecrated as Marienkirche in September 1923 . The outside of the church was renovated in 1983 and the inside in 1987. During the renovation of the interior, the church was built by the master painter Jakob Hahn jun. painted.

organ

The organ builder Carl Leopold Wegenstein from Timisoara manufactured the pneumatic organ with seven registers as Opus 48 in 1902/03 . It is a small organ like the one that Wegenstein built for many smaller churches in the Banat, but the sound could be amplified by the super and sub-octave couplings. The company inscriptions are in Hungarian: Wegenstein CL Temesvár . The cantors Karl Reiter (1922–1950) and Otto Vargha (1950–1983), who were also honored with memorial plaques, worked on this organ .
