Gheorghe Cazan

Gheorghe Cazan (born January 20, 1929 in Fulga , Prahova district ) is a former Romanian politician of the Romanian Communist Party PCR (Partidul Comunist Român) , who was among other things Minister for Light Industry between 1974 and 1975.

Life

Textile engineer and operations director

Gheorghe Cazan attended from 1942 to 1948 the commercial high school "Tase Dumitrescu" in Mizil and from 1948 to 1949 the technical school for economic administration in Buzău . At that time he became a member of Uniunea Tineretului Muncitor (UTM), the youth organization of the Labor Party in 1949 . In 1949 he began studying at the Faculty of Textiles of the Polytechnic Institute in Bucharest , which he continued from 1953 to March 1954 at the Polytechnic Institute in Iași and graduated as a textile engineer. He then began his professional career in March 1954 at the Azuga cloth factory , where he was initially head of production in a department and finally, until 1958, production manager of the factory. He was also a member of the factory's UTM committee. In October 1956 member of the Romanian Workers' Party PMR (Partidul Muncitoresc Român) . After he was chief technologist and engineer in the production department of the Ministry of Light Industry between 1958 and 1959, he was director of the Proletarul cloth factory in Bacău between 1959 and July 1960 and then from July 1960 to May 1961 as general director of the cloth factory in Buhuși . In May 1961 he moved back to the Ministry of Light Industry, where he was general director of the main department for wool and silk instruments. In 1962, he also began postgraduate studies and, after graduating in 1964, earned a doctorate in economics.

Minister and MP

On February 8, 1966, Cazan took over the post of Vice Minister for Internal Trade and held this post until November 26, 1973. He then acted between November 26, 1973 and March 30, 1974 as State Secretary in the Ministry of Light Industry. In 1974 he also became a member of the Romanian-French Friendship Society. On March 30, 1974, he took over the office of Minister for Light Industry (Ministrul industriei ușoare) in the Mănescu I cabinet , which he also held in the Mănescu II cabinet from March 18, 1975 until he was replaced by Lina Ciobanu on September 29, 1975 . At the Eleventh Party Congress of the PCR (November 24 to 27, 1974) he became a member of the Central Committee (ZK) of the PCR and held this function until the Twelfth Party Congress of the PCR (November 19 to 23, 1979) .

In 1975 Gheorghe Cazan became a member of the Grand National Assembly (Marea Adunare Națională) and represented in this until 1980 the constituency No. 1 Vaslui . In 1975 he also became a member of the Supreme Council for Economic and Social Development. In 1980 he took over the post of Vice President of the Central Union of Consumer Cooperatives CENTROCOOP (Uniunea Centrală a Cooperativelor de Consum) and was also General Director of the Industrial Center for Cotton Fibers until April 9, 1982 . After he was again Deputy Minister for Light Industry between April 9 and November 3, 1982, from November 3, 1982 to October 1, 1987, he held the post of State Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Trade and International Economic Cooperation and at the same time as head the International Cooperation Department of this Ministry. On October 19, 1987 he was again Vice Minister for Light Industry and held this position until the collapse of communism in the wake of the revolution on December 22, 1989 . In 1987 he also became President of the Romanian-Colombian Friendship Society. For his services he was awarded the Order of Labor Third Class (Ordinul Muncii) .
