Gheorghe Cobirzan

Gheorghe Cobirzan (* 1940 ) is a former Romanian table tennis player . He became European mixed champion in 1960 .

Career

Gheorghe Cobirzan had his first international successes as a teenager. In 1958 he won the title at the European Youth Championship in singles, doubles with Radu Negulescu , mixed with Maria Golopenta and with the Romanian team. At the national Romanian championships of adults he was champion six times: In doubles in 1960 (with Tiberiu Kovacs) and 1965 to 1967 (with Dorin Giurgiucă ) and in 1960 and 1962 in mixed with Maria Alexandru (formerly Golopenta). He played for the club CSM Cluj, with whom he won the European Cup in 1961, 1964 and 1965 .

From 1961 to 1967 he took part in four world championships , but never came close to medals. He was more successful at the European Championships in Zagreb in 1960 , where he became European champion in mixed with Maria Alexandru . In 1965 he won the Balkan Championships in doubles with Dorin Giurgiucă and with the team, in mixed with Catrinel Maria Folea he reached the final and in singles the semi-finals.

After 1967 Gheorghe Cobirzan no longer appeared internationally.
