Radu Negulescu
Radu Negulescu , after 1980 Johann R. Wolf (born March 22, 1941 in Bistrița , German Bistritz ), is a Romanian- German gynecologist and former Romanian national table tennis player from the 1960s. He became vice European champion in 1960.
Athletic career
Even in his youth, Radu Negulescu achieved several successes at European youth championships: in 1958 he won doubles with Gheorghe Cobirzan and with the team, a year later he won the singles, doubles with Adalbert Rethi and mixed with Mariana Barasch. In 1960 he was nominated for the European Championship for the first time . He achieved his greatest success by becoming vice European champion behind the Hungarian Zoltán Berczik . He also won silver in mixed with Angelica Rozeanu . At the European Championships in 1964, 1966 and 1968 he no longer won a medal. From 1959 to 1967 he took part in five world championships . At the Balkan Championships he was first four times in the 1960s (inter alia in the doubles in 1964 with Dorin Giurgiucă and 1967 with Adalbert Rethi and in 1966 in mixed with Carmen Crişan) and five times second.
He was national champion six times in singles (1959, 1961, 1962, 1964, 1966, 1967), five times in doubles (1961 to 1964 with Adalbert Rethi, 1968 with Dorin Giurgiucă) and in 1964 in mixed Maria Alexandru . With the club CSM Cluj he won the European Cup in 1961, 1964, 1965, 1966 and 1967 .
His successes were honored with the title of Master of Sports . After 1968 Radu Negulescu no longer appeared internationally.
Private life and career as a gynecologist
Negulescu's father, Jean, a doctor, was of German descent. Radu Negulescu is married and has two children. He worked as a gynecologist in a clinic in Cluj-Napoca. In 1975 he took a position as an assistant doctor at the women's clinic in Ulm, while playing at SSV Ulm in 1846 in the Baden-Württemberg League. In 1981 he finally moved to Germany with his family because he saw better prospects for his children here. He changed his name to Johann R. Wolf and had a practice as a gynecologist in Pulheim until he retired at the end of 2006 .
