Karofane (also: Korafane ) is a rural community in the Bouza department in Niger .

geography

Karofane is located in the Sahel . The neighboring communities are Bouza in the northwest, Babankatami in the northeast, Ourno in the southeast and Madaoua in the southwest. The municipality is divided into 37 administrative villages, 73 hamlets, a camp and a water point. The main town of the rural municipality is the administrative village of Karofane. It is located on the edge of the Tarka Valley , which runs from the Tanout department in the Zinder region to the Rima River in Nigeria .

The Forêt classée de Karofane is a 4020 hectare protected forest area in the municipality of Karofane. It was placed under protection in 1955.

history

The rural community Karofane emerged from part of the canton of Bouza in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform.

population

At the 2001 census, Karofane had 44,569 inhabitants. At the 2012 census, the population was 77,796.

Economy and Infrastructure

The community is located in a zone where rain-fed agriculture is practiced. There is a cattle market in Karofane. The market day is Thursday.
