Ourno is a rural municipality in the Madaoua department in Niger .

geography

Ourno is in the Sahel . The neighboring communities are Karofane in the north, Adjékoria in the northeast, Dan-Goulbi in the southeast, Bangui in the southwest and Madaoua in the west. The municipality is divided into 75 administrative villages and 92 hamlets. The main town of the rural municipality is the administrative village of Ourno.

history

The rural community of Ourno emerged from part of the canton of Madaoua in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform.

population

At the 2001 census, Ourno had 51,160 inhabitants. At the 2012 census, the population was 98,769.

politics

Hadjia Gomma Idi ( PNDS-Tarayya ) was elected mayor in the local elections in July 2004 .

Culture and sights

In the municipality of Ourno lies the widely visible hill country of Doutsin Zana (also: Doutchi Zana), at the highest point of which there is a sacrificial place and a stone mosque commissioned by Usman dan Fodio .

Economy and Infrastructure

The community lies at the transition from the zone of rain-fed farming in the north to the zone of irrigated farming in the south. There is a cattle market in Ourno. The market day is Sunday.
