Ghorepani is a village in the Mysgdi District in the Dhaulagiri Zone of north-central Nepal . It is located 17 kilometers from the district town of Beni at an altitude of approximately 2874 m. The village is in the Annapurna Conservation Area and has a number of guest houses that provide accommodation and food for hikers. Many spend the night there before climbing the 300 m higher viewpoint Poon Hill (3210 m) at dusk the next day to experience the sunrise with a large mountain panorama.

history

The place was first used as a resting place where merchants found water for their horses. This is where the name comes from: horse means Ghore in Nepali and water means Pani.

reachability

Ghorepani is a place to which there are still no roads accessible by cars. Any transport must therefore be made on foot. Nevertheless, it is on an important connecting route between Annapurna Base Camp and several other villages. In the south-east direction you can reach the village of Birethanti in about 10 hours, depending on the hiker , in the north-west direction in 8-10 hours the village of Tatopani .
