Augustin Stöckli SOCist (born November 22, 1857 in Ruswil , † September 24, 1902 in Eschenbach ) was a Cistercian and abbot of the Private Abbey Wettingen-Mehrerau .

Life

Stöckli attended high school in Zug and the school of Engelberg Abbey and, after graduating from high school in 1880, joined the Mehrerau Abbey. In 1884 he was ordained a priest and teacher at the monastery educational institution, the Collegium Bernardi . In 1886 he became sub-prefect, in 1893 prefect. Elected abbot in 1895 and by Pope Leo XIII. Preconceived in the consistory , Stöckli had the abbey church beautified (altar of grace with a depiction of the Virgin Mary by Viktor Mezger ) and a memorial erected for Cardinal Josef Hergenröther , who was buried in Mehrerau . He had the training institute of the monastery enlarged and premises built to accommodate the scientific and physical teaching collections. After the monastery’s own farm buildings were partially burned down in 1898, he had new, larger and more modern ones built. 1898 Stöckli was the 1784 by Emperor Joseph II. Repealed monastery parakeet (Stična) in the former crown land Krain buy back and repopulate with Mehrerauer monks.

He died after giving a sermon on September 21, 1902 in his native Ruswil, in the night of September 23 to 24, 1902 in the Eschenbach monastery in Switzerland.
