criticism

The e-zine Laut.de rated Ghostdini: The Wizard of Poetry in Emerald City with three out of a possible five points. From the perspective of the editor Alexander Engelen, Ghostface Killah dedicates his new long player to the “ hate-beloved genre mash-up [of rap and R'n'B]. “He moves“ between the gay and the street, between rosy romance and raw directness ”, whereby“ whisper hooks and rap parts go into more than just [an] acoustic marriage of convenience ”. The rapper combines " uncompromising storytellers with one or the other star from the R'n'B world " such as John Legend, Raheem DeVaughn, Jack Knight and Ne-Yo. The instrumentals of the pieces are reminiscent of releases by the Motown label , with the producers pulling out all the stops “ between soft e-guitars, jingling pianos, waving strings and stax brass ”.
