Giacomo Caliri

Giacomo Caliri (born October 5, 1940 ) is a former racing car designer and aerodynamicist who was involved in international motorsport for many years.

Giacomo Caliri studied mechanical engineering at the Politecnico di Torino and received his doctorate in 1966. Three years later, the aerodynamicist was already director of the relevant department at Scuderia Ferrari . Caliri designed the Ferrari 312PB and was jointly responsible for the design of the Formula 1 racing cars until the end of his work at Ferrari . After Peter Schetty's resignation as race director at the end of 1972, he briefly held this position at Scuderia. In 1976 Caliri left Ferrari and opened his own design studio called FLY in Modena , which mainly focused on the construction of racing cars. His company worked for Autodeltaand designed the Fittipaldi F5A for the Fittipaldi Automotive by Emerson and Wilson Fittipaldi and the ATS D2 for the German Formula 1 racing team ATS .

In 1980 he became a co-owner of Minardi and was chief designer for the first Formula 1 Minardi, the M185 . In 1989 he sold his company shares and returned to Ferrari in 1997 after stints at Forti Corse and Maserati , where he stayed until 2002. He has been a consultant in international motorsport since 2004.
