Peter Schetty
Peter Schetty (* 1942 in Basel ) is a former Swiss car racing driver and racing director of Scuderia Ferrari .
Career
Peter Schetty comes from a wealthy Swiss textile entrepreneurial family . In the 1960s he started hill climbing and drove in 1965 and 1966 for the Scuderia Filipinetti their Shelby Mustang in the European Hill Climb Championship . Schetty won the Gaisbergrennen and the Roßfeld , among others . After a year at Abarth in 1967 , he got a works contract with Scuderia Ferrari in 1968. With the Ferrari 212E Montagna he dominated the championship in 1969, won all races in the sports car class and took the championship title.
In 1970, Schetty was promoted to the Scuderia sports car team and competed in the sports car world championship with the Ferrari 512S . At the 1000 km race of Spa-Francorchamps he finished second with Jacky Ickx and third at the 1000 km race of Monza as a partner of John Surtees .
At the end of 1970 he ended his racing career and in 1971 took over the position of race director at Scuderia. The Swiss headed the fate of the Italian racing team for two years before he retired from motorsport entirely at the end of the 1972 season to take over the management of the family business.
