Giambattista Dall'Olio

Giambattista Dall'Olio (born February 19, 1739 in Villa Sesso , † May 17, 1823 in Modena ) was an Italian music historian and music theorist.

Dall'Olio studied in Bologna with Giambattista Martini, among others . In 1764 he became a school teacher and organist at the collegiate church in Rubiera near Modena. In 1784 he switched to the ducal bookkeeping, in 1815 he was retired as its head. He used his retirement to complete the inventory of the printed music and manuscripts of the Biblioteca Estense in Modena. Dall'Olio was a member of the “ Societá Italiana delle science ” in Modena and the “ Accademia Filarmonica ” in Bologna.

Two Salterii (built in 1764 and 1780) have survived from Dall'Olio and are now in the Modena City Museum. In 1770 he had his treatise Avvertimenti pei suonatori di Salterio printed. Between 1790 and 1808 he published six works on music theory and the hymn La Musica (1794).
