Gianna Jessen (born April 6, 1977 in Los Angeles ) is an American singer and activist of the rights movement . She survived an attempt to terminate the pregnancy .

Life

Her mother, who was 17 when Gianna's birth, had an abortion in the 30th week of pregnancy (7th month). However, the saline procedure failed and Jessen was born alive. The attempted abortion resulted in infantile cerebral palsy . The parents gave Jessen up for adoption shortly afterwards.

Jessen is a life rights activist. She made speeches to the US Congress and the UK House of Commons .

Despite the prognosis of never being able to walk, she ran her first marathon in 2005 . She then successfully took part in the 2006 London Marathon . Jessen is also active as a singer, sometimes accompanied by her friend Michael Logen, and has written and published some songs herself. In 1999 Jesse published a biography written by Jessica Shaver.

The feature film October Baby , which is based freely on the life story of Gianna Jessen, opened in US cinemas on March 23, 2012 .
