Gianni Franciolini (born June 1, 1910 in Florence , † January 1, 1960 in Rome ) was an Italian film director .

Life

Franciolini went to Paris in 1929 to develop himself further as a journalist and there came into contact with the artistic avant-garde of the time, including Eugène Deslaw . He became an assistant director to Georges Lacombe and made the documentary Vérité sur l'Italie . From 1938 he was back in his home country and, after assistant director a . a. for Mario Soldati and Camillo Mastrocinque , directed a feature film for the first time in 1940. His second film, Fari nella nebbia , staged immediately afterwards , is probably his best work. Influenced by poetic realism in France, Franciolini succeeded in bringing the Telefoni Bianchi closer to the realities of the people at the time of its creation. In post-war Italy, Franciolini focused mainly on comedies and genre films with influences from neorealism , often based on scripts by Cesare Zavattini, until his untimely death .
