Arnold Karl Wratschko (born October 25, 1900 in Gleisdorf , † October 28, 1973 in Weiz ) was an Austrian painter.

Life

Born as the second child of the large family of teachers Maria and Alois J. Wratschko, Arnold Wratschko first learned the craftsmanship and cutlery after attending compulsory school. Inspired by his uncle, the academic painter Ernst Deisting, he soon found painting. From 1924 to 1930 he attended the Landeskunstschule in Graz , where he was introduced to figural drawing and painting by Daniel Pauluzzi (1866-1956) and in nude with Anton Marussig (1868-1925) and Fritz Silberbauer (1883-1974), with Alfred Zoff (1852–1927), Julius Wegerer (1886–1960) and Alfred Wickenburg (1885–1978) took lessons in landscape and still life. In the meantime Arno Wratschko had also learned the painting and decorating trade, but was repeatedly without a livelihood. Art helped him through dreary days. In 1938 he found solid ground in Weiz as a machine setter in the ELIN plant . Drafted in as a Volkssturm man , he was wounded on the Pretul (Fischbacher Alps) in the last days of the war . It was not until 1949 that he was able to resume his job. Wratschko's artistic work became known to the public relatively late through an exhibition in the city hall of Weiz. In 1962 an exhibition took place in Offenburg . The now grown up children enabled him to travel far. Southern Germany, the Adriatic coast, Toronto, California, Honolulu - the world had grown up for A. Wratschko - and picture by picture enchanting landscapes emerged. The anniversary exhibition for his 70th birthday gave an astonishing insight into his overflowing art.
