Gickelhof (formerly also Oberotterbach and Gickelhaus ) is the desolation of a farm estate on the boundary of the Külsheim district of Steinbach in the Main-Tauber district in Baden-Württemberg .

geography

Location of the special district Gickelhof within the district of Steinbach after a survey from 1884

The Gickelhof was on an artificial terrace above the Eichelbach , a left tributary of the Otterbach to the Erfa .

history

Like the other farms in the area, the Gickelhof was created as a clearing settlement in the High Middle Ages in the forest belonging to Steinbach. In 1426 the Gickelhof was first mentioned in a document as Oberotterbach . Since 1485 it has been called the Gickelhaus , but at that time it was still an outpost of the nearby Otterhof . During the Thirty Years War the farm became deserted, but was settled again after 1652.

In 1668 the Gickelhof fell to Löwenstein-Wertheim . Until the 18th century the farm was mainly used as a sheepfold.

Around 1900 the Gickelhof was an independent farm with around 100 hectares of arable land. Around 1925 the Gickelhof, like the other special demarcations in the area, became part of the then still independent municipality of Steinbach. In the early 1940s the place still consisted of two courtyards. In 1958 the place Gickelhof was given up and as a result almost all buildings were demolished around 1960, even before Steinbach was incorporated into the city of Külsheim on January 1, 1975.

A forester's lodge built in 1803 initially remained in existence. In 2010 the abandoned forester's house, which was located a little south of the Gickelhof, was finally torn down.

Small monuments

There are two small memorials in the area of the former Gickelhof and the associated former field barn.
