Gijsbert van Glabbeeck

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gijsbert van Glabbeeck (* unknown; † after 1648 ) was a Dutch still life painter who worked in Utrecht .

Little is known about his life. Since 1630/32 he was a master member of the painters' guild. On April 13, 1648 he made his will in Utrecht.

So far, three paintings by him are known to be dated to the 2nd quarter of the 17th century, the first two originally incorrectly attributed to Jan van Glabbeeck . He painted simply composed still lifes with a few bowls standing next to each other on a set table and other objects in a palette of moderate colors.

  • Still life with a nautilus cup , Amsterdam, art dealer Douwes brothers
  • Still life with walnuts , art trade
  • Still life with fruits , New York, Sotheby's, signed G Glabbeeck

Furthermore, two fruit still lifes by Antony Francken and Anna Glabbeeck, possibly his daughter, are mentioned in the inventory drawn up in Amsterdam in 1660.
