Gilgenbach is a former municipality in the district of Ahrweiler , which has been part of the municipality of Leimbach bei Adenau since November 7, 1970 .

In Gilgenbach there is a chapel built in 1749 and 1750 , which was built in honor of St. Lawrence and was renovated in the 1990s. The Rochus Chapel can also be found in Gilgenbach.

Gilgenbach was first mentioned by name around 1163 in a letter from Konrad von Gilgenbach . In 1830 there was a school in Gilgenbach, which was closed after the school in Leimbach opened. Until 1972, students from Leimbach, Gilgenbach and Adorferhof went to school in Leimbach. Since the primary school was closed in 1972, children have been taught in the schools in the city of Adenau .
