Gilles Apap

Gilles Apap (born May 21, 1963 in Bougie , Algeria ) is a French violinist.

Life

The musician, who grew up in Nice , began playing the violin at the age of seven . He studied music in Nice at the Conservatoire de Musique with Gustave Gaglio and Lyon with Veda Reynolds, as well as at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and won the Yehudi Menuhin competition in 1985, in the contemporary music category , among other competitions .

Today Apap plays the classical and contemporary violin repertoire, but also traditional "Fiddl-Music" from Europe, America and India. Since 1991 he has also played with the "Transylvanian Mountain Boys", which still include Chris Judge , Brendan Statom and his brother Jean-Marc Apap . In Santa Barbara he was the concertmaster of the symphonic orchestra. Gilles Apap now lives in California .
