Giol

Giol , also Glendhu , is a derelict town on the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay . Giol was about a kilometer off the west coast of the Oa Peninsula . The closest settlements were Lower Killeyan, about a kilometer south, and Coillabus, three kilometers west . Lower Giol , located 600 m northwest, is also included in Giol .

Giol was the end point of the path that led via Coillabus and Cragabus to Port Ellen . In 1861 117 people were counted in Giol, who were divided into 27 families. Of these, 56 were female and 61 male. In 1981 the remains of six uncovered buildings were counted in Giol; in Lower Giol there were four uncovered buildings.
