Giorgi Gabashvili

Giorgi (Goka) Gabashvili ( Georgian გიორგი გაბაშვილი ; * 1973 ) is a Georgian politician ( United National Movement ). The Germanist was Georgia's Minister of Culture , Monument Protection and Sport from February 2004 to January 2008 and then became head of the Georgian presidential administration.

Life

From 1991 to 1994 he studied German and philology at the Saarland University in Saarbrücken . In 1995 he graduated from the Faculty of Western Languages ​​and Literature at Tbilisi State University .

In 1997 he worked in the Public Relations Department of the Georgian Ministry of Education. In 1998 he moved to the Bonn Institute for Foreign Policy . From 1998 to 2002 he was the director of teaching materials, publications, translations, media and public relations programs at the Open Society Fund in Georgia. At the same time he directed the television project Azri .

In 2002 Gabashvili switched to politics and became General Secretary of the United Democrats Zurab Schwanias , which in 2003 was absorbed into the National Movement - Democrats . On February 17, 2004, the Georgian parliament elected him Minister for Culture, Monument Protection and Sport on the proposal of Prime Minister Schwania. On January 31, 2008, he was not accepted into the cabinet of President Saakashvili's second term, but instead took over the office of head of the presidential administration.

He is running for the Georgian parliamentary elections in 2008 on the list of the ruling party United National Movement .
