Giorgi Tschachawa
Giorgi Tschachawa ( Georgian გიორგი ჩახავა ; * 1923 in Tbilisi ; † August 25, 2007 ) was a Soviet and later Georgian architect .
Tschachawa finished school No. 25 in 1941. After his military service he studied architecture at the architecture faculty of the State Polytechnic University and graduated in 1949. Tschachawa realized buildings throughout the Soviet Union, besides Georgia also in Ukraine , Uzbekistan , Tajikistan and Afghanistan . According to himself, his main inspiration is the landscape of his native Georgia with its traditional mountain villages. His most famous building is the administration building of the Ministry of Road Construction and the Café Fantasie in Batumi . With Zurab Kabanadze and other artists he was involved in the construction of the Russian-Georgian Friendship Monument .
Tschachawa has received several awards, from the Georgian Association of Architects, the Association of Architects of the Soviet Union , in 1983 with the State Prize of the Council of Ministers of the Soviet Union and in 1991 as an honorary member of the International Academy of Architecture of oriental countries .
