Giorgio Mariotti (born April 30, 1969 in Bruchsal ) is an Italian-German politician in Greece , founder and former board member of the Pirate Party of Greece .

Life

Giorgio Mariotti was born in Germany and was an Italian citizen due to his migration background. With the 10th law amending service regulations of December 1993, he took on German citizenship and joined the police service of the state of Baden-Württemberg as a police officer, where he was made civil servant in 1996. The civil service relationship was acknowledged by his employer, the Baden-Württemberg police, in 2003 after he had accused him of refusing to serve.

Functions in the Pirate Party of Greece

The Pirate Party of Greece was founded by Giorgio Mariotti on January 14th, 2012 after five months of preparation. It was officially registered on February 10, 2012, and at that time had 480 members. As of May 17, 2014, the Pirate Party had 1164 members.

Giorgio Mariotti was a member and international coordinator of the Pirate Party of Greece from 2012 to 2013 and an elected board member of the seven-member committee. He was the first list candidate in the 2012 parliamentary elections in Thessaloniki .

He ran as a candidate for parliamentary elections in Greece and received 1,307 votes.

In the course of 2013 several founding members and members of the steering committee resigned, including Giorgio Mariotti and Michalis Petropoulos. They justified their resignation by saying that "the machinations of the old system had hijacked the party". They founded a new movement called ΣΥΜΜΑΧΙΑ ΑΜΕΣΟΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΩΝ - Αμεσοδημοκρατικό Κίνημα Ελλάδας (SYMA - Movement for Direct Democracy Greece). Giorgio Mariotti joined the Diexodos Hellas party (Διέξοδος Ελλάς, Greek) on May 26, 2019 as an independent MEP (list candidate position 4 of 7).
