The Pirate Party of Greece ( Greek Κόμμα Πειρατών Ελλάδας , comma Piraton Elladas ) is a political party in Greece . She is part of the international pirate party movement . She advocates the reform of copyright and exploitation law , the abolition of patents and the protection of private data.

The party has no chairman but is led by a steering committee with seven members.

history

The party was founded on January 14, 2012 after five months of preparation, among others by Giorgio Mariotti . It was officially registered on February 10, 2012, and at that time had 480 members. As of May 17, 2014, the Pirate Party had 1164 members. At the congress on December 8, 2013, the principles of direct democracy and ecology were deleted. The 2013 Congress Report was not published. Today the party has around 20-25 active members.

On April 15, 2012, the party joined the Pirate Parties International . At the end of 2013 she participated in the founding of the European Pirate Party .

In the course of 2013 several founding members and members of the steering committee resigned, including Giorgio Mariotti and Michalis Petropoulos. They justified their resignation by saying that "the machinations of the old system had hijacked the party". They founded a new movement called ΣΥΜΜΑΧΙΑ ΑΜΕΣΟΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΩΝ - Αμεσοδημοκρατικό Κίνημα Ελλάδας (SYMA - Movement for Direct Democracy Greece).

elections

The Pirate Party ran in the general election in Greece on May 6, 2012 in 31 of the 56 constituencies and reached 0.51% nationwide. In the June 2013 election it came to 0.23%.

In the European elections on May 25, 2014 , the party ran together with the Ikologi Prasini ( Green Ecologists ) party represented in the European Parliament . Together they achieved a result of 0.9%.
