The Pirate Party Belgium (PPBe, Dutch Piratenpartij , French Parti Pirate , English Pirate Party Belgium ) is a political party in Belgium . It is part of the international movement of pirate parties . The party was founded on June 28, 2009 and is based in Brussels . In order to avoid the Belgian language dispute, the party communicates internally in English and officially uses the English name “Pirate Party”.

There are subdivisions in Brussels , Wallonia , Flanders and East Belgium . The German-speaking "local group Ostbelgien" also uses the proper name "Piratenpartei Ostbelgien".

The party is led by a core team. This consists of three co-chairs, one each from Flanders, Wallonia and Brussels, and the treasurer. The party is organized locally in crews of three to eleven members each, each led by a captain , a navigator and possibly a treasurer . There are also squads that work thematically or project-related.

The party was a founding member of Pirate Parties International , but suspended its membership in the organization in March 2015.

elections

In the parliamentary elections in Belgium 2010 on June 13, 2010, the party took part in an election for the first time. She only appeared in the constituency of Brussels-Halle-Vilvoorde , where she received 0.26% of the vote. The party's candidate was Jurgen Rateau .

In the 2012 local and provincial elections, the party ran in 14 cities and 26 provinces. It achieved the best results in the university town of Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve with 5.4% and in the provinces of Namur with 3.09% and Tournai with 3.42%.

The party received 0.34% of the vote in the 2014 parliamentary elections and 0.11% in the 2019 parliamentary elections .
