The Pirate Party (Finnish. Piraattipuolue , Schw. Piratpartiet , PP for short ) is a party in Finland with about 3800 members. It is part of the international movement of pirate parties . In the Finnish parliamentary election on April 17, 2011 , she ran for the first time in elections.

history

After the founding of Swedish Piratpartiet 2006 it inspired in the same year in Finland Tietoyhteiskuntapuolue (TYP), translates the information society party , founded. However, the TYP was unable to collect the necessary 5000 supporter signatures to participate in the 2007 parliamentary elections in Finland . As a result, the party stopped work.

On May 24, 2008, after around four months of preparation, the Pirate Party was founded in Tampere . After collecting 5000 supporters' signatures, it was officially registered as a party on August 13, 2009. For the originally planned start in the European elections in Finland 2009 , the registration came too late.

The party first ran in the 2011 parliamentary elections in Finland . A total of 126 candidates ran for the Pirate Party in 11 of the 14 mainland constituencies. Candidates from the Liberaalit (The Liberals) stood on some lists of the Pirate Party . In the constituency of Pirkanmaan vaalipiiri there was a list connection with the Muutos party in 2011 (change in 2011) . The Pirate Party received 0.5% of the vote and became the strongest extra-parliamentary party. In the European elections in Finland in 2014 , the pirates received 0.7% of the vote. In the parliamentary elections in Finland in 2015 , she was able to increase her share to 0.8%, but once again failed to enter parliament.

The youth organization of the Pirate Party is called Piraattinuoret (Pirate Youth ).

ideology

The party advocates the following goals:

  1. Protection of individual rights, especially in terms of privacy, the confidentiality of letters and freedom of speech
  2. Complete decriminalization of the non-commercial use of creative works (copying, sharing, remixing, etc.)
  3. Shortening copyright protection to 5–10 years
  4. Abolition of software and pharmaceutical patents and review of the necessity of the entire patent system
  5. The increasing opening of decision-making processes in democracy and the Reformation through the information society
