Pirates de Catalunya (PIRATA.CAT, Catalan for Pirates of Catalonia ) is a party in the Spanish Autonomous Region of Catalonia . It was founded on October 4, 2010 as a sister party of the Spanish Partido Pirata and sees itself as part of the international movement of pirate parties .

Election results of the Catalan general election 2010

On November 28, 2010, the party first appeared in the parliamentary elections in Catalonia 2010 and achieved 0.21 percent of the vote. In the local elections in May 2011, the party was able to double its number of votes and won one seat each in Santa Coloma de Gramenet and Sant Fruitós de Bages . For the Spanish parliamentary elections on November 20, 2011 , the party ran in all four provinces of Catalonia and achieved 0.6% of the vote in the House of Representatives election and between 0.8% and 1.5% in the election of the senators. The party also competed nationwide in the parliamentary elections in Catalonia in 2012 and received 0.49% of the vote.

International connections

Since, according to the statutes of the Pirate Parties International (PPI), only one pirate party of a state can join there, PIRATA.CAT is only an observing member of the PPI, while the Partido Pirata Español is a national member with voting rights. However, PIRATA.CAT is a member of the European Pirates .

Party leadership

The party's general secretary is Xavier "Xavi" Vila i Espinosa (* 1976), who also ran for the constituency of Barcelona in the 2010 parliamentary elections, and the spokesperson is Kenneth Peiruza Cerdán (* 1978).

The party's youth organization is called Grumets de Catalunya (German ship boys of Catalonia). Members of the Grumets can be between 16 and 30 years old.
