Giorgio Squinzi (born May 18, 1943 in Cisano Bergamasco , Lombardy ; † October 2, 2019 in Milan ) was an Italian chemist and head of the construction chemicals company Mapei . From 2012 to 2016 he was chairman of the Italian industrial association Confindustria .

Giorgio Squinzi was born in 1943 to Rodolfo Squinzi, the founder of Mapei. Squinzi graduated from the University of Milan with a degree in industrial chemistry in 1969 and joined the family business in 1970. In 1976 he became the company's managing director. He was married to Adriana Spazzoli and had the children Marco and Veronica with her.

Squinzi became known as a supporter of the sport. From 1993 he financed the Mapei cycling team for ten years until he stopped sponsoring in 2002 because the team was involved in doping . In the same year he bought the soccer team US Sassuolo Calcio , which experienced a sporting boom under his aegis and rose from the fourth to the first Italian league over the years . In 2016 he also joined the Board of Directors of Scala .

Giorgio Squinzi died after a long illness in the San Raffaele hospital in Milan .
