Georgios Stavrakakis
Georgios Stavrakakis ( Greek Γεώργιος Σταυρακάκης , born October 13, 1954 in Christos ; † February 27, 2015 ) was a Greek seismologist and politician of the Panellinio Sosialistiko Kinima (PASOK).
Life
Stavrakakis studied seismology and geophysics in Athens , Münster and Tsukuba , Japan. From 1995 to 2008 he was director of the Institute for Geodynamics at the National Observatory .
In the European elections in 2009 he entered the PASOK list and was elected fifth in the European Parliament , where he was a member of the S&D group until 2014 .
On February 27, 2015, Stavrakakis died of cancer.
