Giovanni Barrella

Giovanni Barrella (born November 30, 1884 in Milan , † September 23, 1967 in Erba ) was an Italian film director .

Life

Barrella was the son of a major in the Napoleonic infantry and attended the Academy of Fine Arts before starring in Piedmontese dialect comedies alongside Carlo Rota and later Edoardo Ferravilla . This was followed by an engagement at the Teatro Argentina in Rome and for the Compagnia Lombarda by Alberto Colantuoni ; Finally he founded in 1927 his own dialect troupe and staged the first thing El Nost Milan by Carlo Bertolazzi . In 1931 he founded another group which, with Paolo Bonecchio , was mainly devoted to amateur drama. Several pieces and poems from his pen have been published.

Barrella, "El Brumista" (= "the coachman"), was rarely seen in cinema roles; if so, then he mostly played Lombard men as character characters in dramas.

In addition to his acting and writing activities, Barrella was also known as a painter.
