Giovanni Battista Sertorio
Giovanni Battista Sertorio (born March 25, 1805 in Lugano ; † April 11, 1871 there ) was a Swiss painter .
Life
Giovanni Battista Sertorio was the son of Pietro Antonio Sertorio, woodworker, and Elisabetta Corbellini. After studying at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan , he taught at the first drawing school for master builders in Lugano from 1835 to 1847. He painted numerous portraits of benefactors of the Santa Maria Hospital in Lugano.
Sertorio painted religious pictures for various churches in Lugano, for the Confraternity of the Virgin Mary, and for chapels in the Sottoceneri region and in Lombardy . He was acquainted with the writer Antonio Fogazzaro , who introduced him as a dialect poet and guitar player in the novel Piccolo mondo antico .
