Giovanni Lorenzo Lulier
Giovanni Lorenzo Lulier (* around 1662 in Rome ; † March 29, 1700 ibid) was an Italian violonist , cellist , trombonist and composer .
Live and act
Lulier, who was nicknamed Giovannino del Violone , probably came from a Spanish family and was a student of Pietro Simone Agostini (1635–1680), a composer and violon player who was in the service of Duke Ranuccio II Farnese of Parma .
Between 1676 and 1699 Lulier played regularly in the church of San Luigi dei Francesi . On October 13, 1679 he joined the Congregazione di Santa Cecilia . From March 1681 he was employed by Cardinal Benedetto Pamphilj as a composer, copyist and violonist and from 1688 as a trombonist with the Musici del Campidoglio . When Cardinal Pamphili left Rome in 1690, Lulier came into the service of Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni , where he remained until the end of his life. In the 1690s he is occasionally documented as a cellist at concerts under the direction of Arcangelo Corelli . Corelli composed the opening concerto grosso for Lulier's oratorio Beatrice d'Este (1689) .
Vocal works by Lulier are known almost exclusively, most of which have been lost, including numerous oratorios, stage works and cantatas.
The music for the Christmas oratorio oratorio “per la nascita del redentore” a sei voci, cori di angeli, pastori, demoni e orchestra from 1698 was performed and recorded for the first time in 2013.
The cellist Klaus-Dieter Brandt and the Ensemble Alte Musik Köln recorded a cello concerto by Lulier in 2009, which is not mentioned in any encyclopedia and may have only recently been discovered.
