Live and act

Piersimone Agostini was u. a. Banished from his hometown for involvement in a murder case. He then embarked on a military career, in the course of which he took part in the war for Crete against the Turks and was appointed Knight of the Order of the Golden Spur because of his services . He made his musical studies under Giovanni Battista Mazzaferrata († 1681) in Ferrara .

Agostini had his first successes as a composer in Genoa, where he composed two operas that were performed at the Teatro Falcone and two more operas for the Teatro Ducale in Milan . He was banished from Genoa for immoral behavior and moved to Rome.

After successful opera performances in Rome, Prince Giovanni Battista Pamphili (1648–1709) made him music director at the Church of Sant'Agnese in Agone . Due to a lack of opera commissions, Agostino left Rome and from September 1697 found a job as Kapellmeister at the court of the Duke of Parma, Ranuccio II Farnese . Almost at the same time he took over from Simpliciano Olivo (1594–1680) the post of Kapellmeister at the ducal Basilica di Santa Maria della Steccata . Just a year later, Agostini died suddenly.

Agostini composed a total of eight stage works, some of which have been lost. Among his best works are the 30 secular cantatas that are close to those of Alessandro Stradella .
