Giovanni Mario Crescimbeni
Giovanni Mario Crescimbeni (born October 9, 1663 in Macerata , † March 8, 1728 in Rome ) was an Italian poet and historian.
Life
Crescimbeni was custodian of the Accademia dell'Arcadia from 1690 to 1728 . From 1700 he was also a member of the Accademia della Crusca in Florence .
Within the Accademia, in contrast to Giovanni Vincenzo Gravina , who was based on Homer and Dante , he represented the direction of the Petrarch- oriented representatives of Poesia volgare . In 1705 he became canon of Santa Maria in Cosmedin in Rome, in 1719 archpriest and in 1728 he was accepted into the Societas Iesu two months before his death .
Honors
In 1701 he was elected a member of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina .
