Girardethaus (Düsseldorf)
The Girardethaus , Königsallee 27–31 in Düsseldorf , was reduced in the monumental style of reform architecture from autumn 1905 to spring 1909 based on designs by Hermann vom Endt for the “Girardet-Verlag”, under the editor Paul Girardet of the daily newspaper “ Düsseldorfer Nachrichten ” built in baroque style.
description
The building stands on a corner lot on Königsallee and Trinkausstraße (formerly Grabenstraße). The street fronts are completely dissolved in a window architecture "pierced by pillars".
Originally, the central axis was specially designed from an architectural point of view. There was a portal that was flanked by two wide segment gables . A two-story bay window rose above it . This was adorned with five long, narrow windows. On the third floor, the window arrangement adapted to the rest of the three-part facade. In the attic zone, there was a monumental gable with reduced, baroque designs. The gable took up the entire width of the central axis. The facades are faced with light gray Bavarian shell limestone . The sculptural work was done in the figurative part by the Düsseldorf sculptor Albert Pehle , in the ornamental part by the sculptor H. Stader. The canopy of the shop entrance and the clock above it were made by the bronze foundry Bernhard Förster.
Between 1908 and 1913 the Royal District Court of Düsseldorf was housed in the wing of the Girardethaus located at the then Grabenstrasse 19-25 .
The building has undergone major changes over time, but has been a listed building since 1984 . Today, the Düsseldorf local editorial office of the Westdeutsche Zeitung and the Express are located here, as well as galleries, boutiques and a night club on the ground floor, some of which are also located in the open courtyard.
