Girolamo Beltrami was born in the city of Reggio nell'Emilia, part of the Duchy of Modena and Reggio, and worked for many years with the theater engineer and architect Gaspare Vigarani , who, like Beltrami, came from Reggio nell'Emilia. In 1646, Beltrami, together with Vigarani, renovated the church of San Agostini in his native town in the baroque style and built the oratory of San Carlo. In 1682 the old church of Santa Maria Assunta in Fabbrico was demolished and rebuilt according to the plans of Girolamo Beltrami and finally inaugurated in 1688.
