Girolamo Crescentini
Girolamo Crescentini (born February 2, 1762 in Urbania , † April 24, 1846 in Naples ) was a famous Italian castrato , opera singer ( soprano ), singing teacher and composer .
Life
Crescentini's voice was trained by Lorenzo Gibelli . He made his debut in Padua in 1782 in the opera Didone abbandonata by Giovanni Sarti .
Crescentini performed as a singer in Italy, Portugal, France and Austria, where he also worked as a singing teacher. In 1804 he became a teacher at the imperial court in Vienna , in 1806 at the court of Napoléon Bonaparte in Paris . From 1816 he was a singing teacher at the Real Conservatorio di Musica in Naples. One of his most famous students was the soprano Adelaide Tosi .
In addition to a collection of singing exercises ( Raccolta di esercizi per il Canto , 1811) he composed several cantatas and arias .
